At PureLite, you might have noticed that we love our high-tech gadgetry.
For producing optimal results and providing our patients with the most innovative, non-invasive treatments, a few of our favourite tools include intense pulsed light therapy (also known as IPL) and laser technology.
Curious about how these modalities work and what they can be used to treat? Read on for everything you need to know about two next-level options for achieving your skincare goals.
Intro to IPL: How it Works
Intense Pulsed Light Therapy is a tried and true technology that uses multiple colours and wavelengths on the light energy spectrum to address specific concerns and treat a range of skin conditions. Essentially, the different wavelengths utilise your body’s own pigment, melanin, to absorb heat and this heat works to target certain skin cells or hair follicles, so that they can be eliminated.
At PureLite we use a device called EXCELIGHT® IPL by Lynton, a certified medical device which is considered one of the safest, most effective options available. We love it because it has numerous applications for use and provides some pretty incredible benefits. What kind of benefits exactly? We’re glad you asked.
A Few Ways We Use IPL
- Acne Management – IPL is able to zero in on the sebaceous glands to decrease oil production and prevent future breakouts.
- Hair Removal – IPL can be used to conduct heat directly to the individual hair follicles, destroying them so that the hair can no longer grow at the site of the treated area.
- Spider and Thread Vein Treatment – IPL produces a specific wavelength that breaks down protein in the vessel walls, causing eradication of the veins and removal via the body’s own natural processes.
- Pigmentation, Photo rejuvenation and Rosacea – IPL reduces the appearance of redness, uneven pigment, age spots, sun damage and even freckles, by causing the destruction of excess melanin.
- Facial Peeling and Skincare – IPL also pairs well with other youth-boosting skin treatments such as a chemical peel, for tightening pores, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and encouraging overall more radiant, rejuvenated skin.
Laser Tattoo Removal:
Besides IPL we also work with laser technology, specifically for our tattoo removal services. This method is very similar to IPL in that it uses light energy and heat to target and break up the ink pigment particles within the skin.
However, the main difference between IPL and a laser is that IPL uses a broader spectrum of wavelengths and colours for more diverse applications. Nevertheless, laser is a great go-to for tattoos, able to remove both full tattoos or just specific details, according to your needs and preferences.
Other Important Things To Know
One other thing most people want to know is what to expect in terms of pain or downtime. Some more good news is that for the most part, our treatments are quite painless compared to some of the more invasive options available in aesthetics today.
Additionally, in all cases, we follow strict safety protocols and have perfected our best practices to ensure that your discomfort is minimal and that recovery time is efficient.
